Twix tried a new type of cookie. I ate it so you don’t have to

Twix got me all excited about the idea that it was introducing new cookie technology to what was already an awesome candy bar.

That’s not really what happened with Snickerdoodle Twix.

Instead, we get Twix that has a bit of a cinnamon bend to the caramel rather than the actual cookie.

Twix had a chance to do something really innovative by actually working in a snickerdoodle-style cookie into the bar. Instead, they added a dash of cinnamon to give the whole thing a snickerdoodle-adjacent vibe.

Otherwise known as the bare minimum.

This is a cookie crime. I’ve been cinnamon swindled. Twix has committed egregious embellishment of enterprise.

This stinky caramel caper will not stand. I will have my revenge, Twix. I don’t know how I’ll be able to do anything of consequence. But I will be mad on the internet.

Will that accomplish anything? No. But it will make me feel better, unlike this cattywampus candy conundrum.

Twix Snickerdoodle | Review

Twix has had a wide variety of spinoffs over the years. Most of the time, the ideas are pretty good. Cookie dough, peanut butter, chocolate fudge? Sign me up.

It was this energy that made me fall for this new chocolate-caramel chicanery when I walked past the candy displays at the front of Walmart.

I should have known better when I saw that one of the options was “Twix Salted Caramel.” That’s a troubling concept. It means that A) Twix wasn’t putting salt in their caramel before or B) they think that by adding “Salted” they’ll be able to sell basically the same product with a new coat of paint.

Unfortunately for me, that’s exactly what I ran into when I fell for this Snickerdoodle skullduggery.

What does it taste like?

It’s Twix with an artificial burst of cinnamon in the caramel. The tweak is minor, but it adds a fun bend of flavor to the familiar experience.

When you bite in, you get a pleasant cloud of cinnamon that hangs over and warms the usual kick of chocolate and caramel.

The extra dimension of flavor is fun. But is a little abrasive. It’s closer to a stick of Big Red Gum than an actual snickerdoodle cookie for my liking.

I think it would be more accurate to call churro-flavored than snickerdoodle. Churros typically hang out with caramel and chocolate. Snickerdoodles are their own chewy cinnamon experience. The jolt of false cinnamon doesn’t do the “Snickerdoodle” label much justice.

So is it any good?

It’s fine. It’s similar to when any major candy modifies a familiar candy bar with a new flavor.

Think of it like a celebrity guest star showing up on your favorite sitcom. It’s fun for one episode. But there’s really no depth. It’s best for everyone involved that we all go back to the original formula.
