MOBILE, Ala. — A Mobile County Sheriff’s Office K-9 has died after collapsing while tracking a suspect, WALA reported.

“[K-9] Malice was not only a loyal partner, he was a trusted and loved member of my family,” said Deputy Jantzen Ward, Malice’s handler. “He will be missed and never forgotten.”

Malice was a 4-year-old, dual-purpose K-9, according to the report. During his service for the sheriff’s office, Malice apprehended five suspects, seized 10 pounds of meth and more than five pounds of marijuana. He also recently competed in a competition at the National Police K-9 Association.

Malice was assisting another agency in a suspect search when he collapsed, according to the report. He was transported to a veterinary hospital where he later died, according to the report.

After the woman fell to the ground, the officers pleaded with her to stay down and show her hands; the woman instead retrieved the knife and began to stand up
