Truck driver seriously injured after two crashes and a high-speed police chase on Cape Cod

A driver was seriously injured Thursday morning after getting into two crashes with other cars and leading police in a high-speed chase on Cape Cod, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Shortly before 11:25 a.m., Barnstable police notified State Police that a Ford F150 that they were pursuing had evaded them and continued onto Route 6 west, State Police said in an email. The truck had been involved in a two-car crash on Route 132 and did not stop when Barnstable police tried to pull it over.

A trooper in an unmarked cruiser soon began following behind a Barnstable police cruiser that was chasing the F150, State Police said. The trooper recorded the truck traveling at around 90 mph, which prompted troopers located further west on Route 6 to position themselves to deploy stop sticks if needed.

The F150 drove “erratically in and out of traffic” during the chase and ultimately crashed into another car, State Police said. Troopers used the opportunity to deploy stop sticks and end the pursuit.

The truck driver — a man in his 20s — was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford with serious injuries, State Police said. The incident remains under investigation, and no further information — including the identity of the driver — has been released.
