Eugenio Suarez is arguably MLB’s hottest hitter of late as he continues to build his trade value ahead of Thursday’s deadline — hitting five home runs in three games coming out of the All-Star break.
But the Arizona Diamondbacks’ star third baseman’s night came to an abrupt end on Monday.
Suarez left Arizona’s game against the Detroit Tigers in the top of the ninth inning after he was hit on the hand by a 96 mph fastball.

Suarez was in visible pain and jerked his hand away as he was getting looked at by one of the trainers.
The 34-year-old leads MLB in RBI with 87 and is arguably the best hitter rumored to be available at the July 31 trade deadline. The Diamondbacks, who fell to 51-56 after Monday’s loss, appear to be sellers and already traded first baseman Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners last week.
The extent of Suarez’s injury is unknown, though he told reporters after the game that the X-rays were negative and he’d undergo more tests on Tuesday.
