SOUTH HADLEY — “How Sad, How Lovely,” the name of the album containing 60-year-old recordings by Connie Converse, aptly describes the life of the New England singer-songwriter who never quite hit it big.
“In December 2010, I was at a friend’s holiday party. I didn’t know many of the people there, and to ease my social anxiety, I was scanning the spines on the bookshelves when a song came up on the house speakers — one that sounded both entirely new to me and as familiar as my own skin,” begins author Howard Fishman in his 2023 biography, “To Anyone Who Ever Asks: The Life, Music and Mystery of Connie Converse.”
