Anyone can learn to write like Taylor Swift with Berklee College of Music’s new and upcoming songwriting master class.
“Whether you’re a Swiftie, Swift-adjacent, or Swift-curious, this masterclass will show you incredible things about the blueprint of Taylor Swift’s songwriting, dissecting the magic of her lyric writing, metaphors, earworm musical hooks and how she builds empathy as a storyteller and composer to reach a global audience,” a release from the institution wrote.
The class will take place Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. for a cost of $99. Enrollment can be done by clicking here. Those interested will have until Tuesday at 5 p.m. to register.
The class, taught by Professor Scarlet Keys, will start by analyzing Swift’s songs through her eras and gather her signature moves as a writer. The class will then implement her lyrical and writing techniques and write in a way that’s “over-dramatic and true.”
In 2023, Keys instructed a similar songwriting class to Berklee students, which she created to be able to dive deeply into an artist like Swift and to “watch the evolution of her writing and look at some of her signature techniques as a songwriter,” she previously told MassLive.
Beyond that, students in the class also looked at how they can learn from Swift’s writing style and apply it to their own writing.
Since the course looked at the evolution of Swift’s songwriting craft, the group covered everything in her discography, from her country roots in “Fearless,” metaphors from sister albums “evermore” and “folklore,” and everything in between.
“It’s like the Eras Tour class,” Keys told MassLive.
