Over 60 “American Idol” contestants participated in the competition’s “showstopper” round, but only four singers secured their spot in the Top 24 during Sunday night’s episode.
The latest glimpse at Season 23’s Hollywood week offered a wealth of powerful performances, but was lean on results, as judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan announced the fates of only a handful of artists. Gabby Samone, Zaylie Windsor, Mattie Pruitt and platinum ticket winner Canaan James Hill were the only singers who were confirmed for the Top 24 in Sunday night’s episode.
“Y’all have made it straight to America’s vote,” said Bryan.
The judging panel also cut a handful of performers from the competition, including JMarie, Samantha Ray, Santina, and Zeya, among others.
“This has been the most incredible showstoppers we’ve ever had in ‘Idol’ history,” Richie told some of the eliminated performers. “There are 120,000 artists that wish they could be where you are right now.”
“Turn this ‘no’ into something incredible,” added Underwood.
The remaining 42 performers will partner up for duets in the next phase of Hollywood week, which will determine which 20 contestants will complete the Top 24. This “head to head” round will air during Monday night’s episode.
