Kendall O’Brien scored a game-high 18 points and Jaylianie Santiago chipped in eight points to help Westfield (1-1) win its first game of the 2025-26 season on Dec. 16. O’Brien had a big second quarter, scoring nine points over the eight-minute frame as the Bombers built an insurmountable lead.
Santiago and O’Brien controlled the middle of the floor, creating several inside baskets.
Sophia Moreira led Chicopee with 10 points.
Westfield next travels to Belchertown on Fri., Dec. 19 to take on the Orioles at 7 p.m.
Rams chase Red Raiders
Southwick 48, Hampshire 29
Avery Burkholder and Hazel Olsen scored 12 points apiece to lead Southwick. Rams’ Lily Coleman had 11.

Bombers rally past O’s
Westfield 87, Belchertown 83
Despite trailing for much of the meet, Westfield rallied to take the lead after the 500-freestyle event and finished 2-3 in the day’s final event, the 400 freestyle, to eek out a hard-fought win.
Westfeld’s Makayla Ellis won two events – the 200 individual medley (2:15.42) and the 500 freestyle (5:16.20) – and teammates Megan Nubile (100 free, 1:02.61), Natalie Dansereau (100 backstroke, 1:13.88), and Sophia Paredes (50 free, 27.89) each won their respective races. The Bombers also delivered a gold medal worthy performance in the 200-freestyle relay with Haleigh St. Jean, Paredes, Nubile, and Ellis combining for a winning time of 1:53.34.
Julia Slavin and Gavriella Serrano also turned in strong times for Westfield.
Grace Perron (200 free, 2:02.57; 100 breaststroke, 1:20.09) and Natalie Parent (100 fly, 1:01.60) won for Belchertown. The Orioles’ 200 medley relay and 400 relay teams also placed first with times of 2:04.96 and 4:04.40, respectively.

Ryan Shea (200 free, 2:03.93; 100 free. 53.60) and Drake Dragon (100 fly, 1:03.80; 100 breaststroke, 1:07.71) won two events apiece and Belchertown claimed first in all three relays as a much larger, stronger Belchertown squad overwhelmed Westfield.
David Purshaga (50 free, 100 free), Carter Bean (200 free, 500 free), Fred Ryczek (100 fly, 100 backstroke) and Jimmy Ha (50 free, 100 breaststroke) turned in strong swims for Westfield.

Westfield’s Alec Piepergerdes won the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.32 seconds.
GIRLS INDOOR TRACK
Nessa Gibson paces Bombers
Ludlow 77, Westfield 13; Putnam 52, Westfield 26
Westfield’s Nessa Gibson finished first in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.99. The Bombers’ 4×200 relay team placed fifth (2:14.55).
