The potentially life-saving message of the ‘Blue Envelope’ (Editorial)

Some ideas are too good to wait for the slow-moving legislative process in the Massachusetts State House.

So last week, the Massachusetts State Police implemented that agency’s own Blue Envelope program. The idea is to heighten the awareness of police officers and dampen the anxiety of those on the autism spectrum when individuals in the two groups meet during a traffic stop.

The Blue Envelope legislation passed the state Senate in January, but the bill is not yet law. It remains before the House Ways and Means Committee.
