The Bolton Fair is right around the corner — here’s when it’s happening in 2023

County fairs are back in Massachusetts starting in August, and while the hype goes toward the Big E, several fairs have already been kicking off, and the next one is right in Worcester County.

Beginning Aug. 11, the 140th Bolton Fair is set to continue a tradition that’s been going on since 1874. Known for its animal shows and agricultural exhibits, the fair presents “great food and entertainment, crafts, commercial exhibits, a farmers’ market, midway rides, demolition derbies and lots of educational demonstrations,” as the fair’s website described.

Vendors can start setting up on Aug. 10 between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. ahead of the fair’s launch on Friday at 12 p.m. By that time, visitors can take part in several shows and go shopping across dozens of vendors, or visit the exhibit hall.

The Bolton Fair is set up by a team of over 100 volunteers, the website read. Volunteers help to run animal shows, set up exhibits at the Exhibit Hall tent, maintain equipment, publicize events, manage parking, take tickets, check vendors in, and “clean up when it’s all over!”

Among the several activities, visitors can watch demolition derbies on Friday and Saturday, watch monster truck and motorcycle stunt shows, magic shows with entertainer Lance Gifford, watch the flying disc dog show, sawmill demonstrations, drink at the beer gardens and shop at the farmers market, among others.

The fair goes on over the weekend, starting at 9 a.m. on both days, ending at 9 p.m. on Saturday and 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Presale tickets start at $12 for admission. After midnight on Aug. 11, tickets will be $15 for general admission, $10 for guests 65 years and older or for military, $5 for children between 5 and 12 years old, and free admission for children under 4 years old.

To go to the fair on all three days, general admission is $25. For seniors, military and children between 5 and 12 years old, admission is $15. Admission for children under 4 years old is still free.
