The big dream that fizzled in Springfield (Editorial)

Not so long ago, Heriberto Flores of the New England Farm Workers Council declared that his group’s development of a mothballed downtown theater and hotel would bring the “rebirth of Springfield.”

Flores took a bow – even before construction started. It was March 2018. Flores said crews would be on the job in three months, reinvigorating a historic property at the cost of $41 million and creating a “bookend” to the new MGM Springfield casino down the street. “I am proud we were able to work this out,” Flores said.
