Tenn. sheriff dies after sustaining severe head injury during fall

SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. — A Tennessee sheriff has died from injuries sustained during a fall, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.

Sumner County Sheriff Roy “Sonny” Weatherford took a fall and sustained a severe head injury while attending the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association Conference, according to the page. He died on Aug. 2.

Weatherford had served with the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office for 39 years and had served as sheriff for 14 years, according to the page. He is survived by his wife, two sons, four grandchildren and three siblings.

“This is yet another example of the inherent risks that [LEOs] face…even when sitting in a cruiser you are marked for violence due to your job,” New Haven Chief Karl Jacobson said

A judge determined that because the man’s protest did not inhibit officers from citing drivers or block drivers from view, it did not qualify as interference

“Connecting more downtown properties to the Real Time Crime Center is one of the ways we’re fighting for a safer downtown,” Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller stated

The suspect was rescued and arrested by Daytona Beach Police officers in a boat, video shows
