LAKELAND, Tenn. — Two Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies, one of whom is now on life support, were involved in separate crashes less than two miles apart, WMC reported.
The first incident occurred just before 7 a.m. on Oct. 15 when a civilian vehicle pulled out in front of a deputy on a motorcycle, leading to a collision, according to the report. The deputy sustained minor injuries and was treated and released later that day.
While responding to the scene of the initial crash, a second deputy was struck by another vehicle. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition and remains on life support, according to Chief Deputy Anthony Buckner.
Buckner described the deputy’s condition as “touch and go” and said medical professionals are monitoring him closely, according to the report.
Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating both crashes.
