A dangerous and oppressive heave wave is set to peak in Massachusetts early this week, as temperatures feel like 110 degrees on Monday.
An extreme heat warning is in effect for Eastern and Central Massachusetts through 8 p.m. Tuesday, with temperatures expected to feel as high as 110 degrees. Western Massachusetts is under a heat advisory during the same time period, where temperatures could feel up to 104 degrees.
Humidity is also expected to be high. Forecasters from the National Weather Service warn heat-related illnesses could increase significantly, and advised residents to drink plenty of water, stay in an air-conditioned room out of the sun and to check up on neighbors and relatives.
Full sun and little to no wind will push temperatures into the high 90s and 100s for most of the state on Monday, with heat indexes reaching between 105 and 110.
Boston could reach 92 degrees Monday, with higher spikes possible in the afternoon. Worcester and Springfield will hit 98, feeling like 104 and 107. Cape Cod and the Islands will stay cooler, with highs in the 80s due to sea breezes.
Monday night expected to stay extremely warm and muggy as the temperatures soar even higher on Tuesday.
Forecasters are eyeing record-breaking temperatures over 100 degrees across most of the state on Tuesday, except for coastal areas, as the heat wave reaches its peak.
