A bit of much-needed relief from the record-breaking heat that cloaked Massachusetts on Tuesday arrives Wednesday, but it won’t exactly be cool, forecasters warned.
Temperatures along the coast should hover between 85 and 90, thanks to a sea breeze. Elsewhere, temperatures will range from the upper 80s to mid-90s. Dew points should dip slightly, leaving the Bay State with less humidity. Still, temperatures should feel between 95 and 100.
As the day shifts to afternoon, a cold front approaches, bringing with it pop-up showers and thunderstorms. The showers and storms will be “widely scattered,” with the possibility for heavy downpours and localized wind gusts.
“Timing is tricky … but feel a degree of confidence these storms occur during the early afternoon to early evening,” National Weather Service forecasters wrote.
The real relief from the heat arrives on Thursday, with highs in the low to mid 70s. The cool stretch extends through Saturday, with temperatures expected to remain in the 70s.
A warm-up begins Sunday, with temperatures clearing 80 and continuing to climb up into the mid to high 80s early next week.
“As for any precipitation, at this time, there are no major systems on the horizon,” forecasters wrote. “At this time, the best chance for widespread rain comes Friday night into Saturday … think those in northern Massachusetts have the greatest chance for the rain.”
