A 16-year-old girl killed in a crash with her boyfriend early Saturday morning was remembered in her obituary as a “beacon of light and joy to everyone fortunate enough to have known her.”
Brielle Mae-Rose Raposo and Cameren Gutter, 15, both of Fall River, were killed when the KIA sedan they were in crashed into the median on Interstate 195 in Dartmouth shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday.
Raposo was born on Halloween in 2008 in New Bedford and quickly showed herself to be a “gifted and talented young woman with a myriad of interests and hobbies,” according to her obituary. She loved sports and played baseball, T-ball, softball and basketball, on top of gymnastics and Cheer Squad.
Beyond sports, Raposo loved the arts — her artwork is on display at the Fall River Narrow — and she played guitar, drums and violin, performing in a band show at Durfee High School.
“Brielle Mae Rose was a witty and smart young lady with an exceptional sense of humor,” the obituary recalled. “Her quick wit and sassy remarks could light up the room, making everyone erupt into laughter.”
Raposo was one of five, with four younger brothers. That older sister spirit extended beyond her family life, as her “loving and courageous spirit made her a popular figure.”
“Her intelligence was well beyond her years, and she was always ready to engage in interesting conversations with both adults and children alike,” the notice reads.
Public visitation for Raposo will be held on Sunday at Southcoast Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a celebration of life to follow at the same venue.
Raposo’s funeral will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. inside the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St John of God Church, Somerset.
“The joy and laughter she brought into our lives will never be forgotten. Let us celebrate her life, remembering her not just for her untimely departure, but for the incredible life she lived, the lives she touched, and the happiness she spread,” the obituary reads.
Beth Couture, one of Raposo’s aunts, started an online fundraiser to aid her family with paying for the cost of her funeral and other services.
“No one prepares for this type of tragedy,” Couture wrote. “Worrying about paying for something like this while trying to grieve is not something I want her mom, stepdad, and brothers to have to think about.”
The GoFundMe has raised close to $4,000 toward a $4,500 goal as of Thursday morning, on 73 donations.
“She was a witty, sassy girl who also loved to tease, was quick with humor, and loved to hassle her kid brothers, but you’d always see her carrying them around and with them in tow,” Couture recalled.
