BOSTON — It took Tanner Jeannot nine games to drop the gloves for the first time as a Bruin, but the free agent signing showed some solid skill as a fighter in his first Boston bout.
Directly off the faceoff with 7:46 left in the second period, Jeannot and Anaheim fourth-liner Ross Johnston immediately squared off to fight.
Jeannot, who is listed at 6-foot-2, 221 pounds, was giving away two inches and 11 pounds to Johnston, who is officially 6-foot-4, 232.
Jeannot struggled to get his right hand loose early in the skirmish and absorbed a couple of early jabs.
But once he got it loose, he made up for lost time, mixing an occasional uppercut into a steady rhythm of right hooks. He landed several heavy shots. Jeannot honored unwritten fight rules by not hitting Johnston when his jersey briefly came up over his face.
Neither man showed any sign of stumbling forcing the linesman to intervene. Johnston landed more punches while Jeannot connected on harder and more direct shots.
