Syracuse shuts out Worcester Red Sox on Fourth of July

The Worcester Red Sox were shut out on Friday by the Syracuse Mets as the hosts surged to a 4-0 victory.

Both sides were scoreless through the first five innings until David Villar broke the deadlock with an RBI single for the Mets in the bottom of the sixth. Gilberto Celestino delivered a three-run home run later in the inning to secure Syracuse’s lead.

The Red Sox had just four hits on the night, but they were not without their scoring chances. Worcester went 0-7 at the plate with runners in scoring positions and left 10 runners on base in the loss.

Kristian Campbell collected two hits in his five at-bats.

Worcester (43-41) will face Syracuse in the fifth game of its six-game series on Saturday, July 5 at 6:35 p.m.
