Summer 2024 weather: Here’s what Farmers’ Almanac predicts

After a rainy summer in 2023, Farmers’ Almanac is predicting another “soggy” summer.

The 2024 outlook for New England is “sultry” and “soggy,” the long-range weather predictor states.

“Summer 2024 is shaping up to be a wild one in the United States, with lots of storms and rain expected in the east, and dry weather in the west,” the websites states.

Summer doesn’t technically start until Thursday, June 20 at 4:51 p.m. EDT. But the rain isn’t waiting.

Farmers Almanac predicts storms almost every week in May.

“One storm departs, another arrives,” it states for the week of May 8.

Although long-range weather predictions are not always accurate, Farmers’ Almanac has a few predictions for summer holidays.

Father’s Day is expected to have widespread cloudiness in New England, while Fourth of July weekend is expected to be “generally pleasant” with fair skies.

August is expected to be especially wet.

“Gardeners in New England who saw a soggy summer season last year may want to plan ‘rain gardens’ this year with plants that love a lot of water, such as: marigolds, forget-me-nots, canna lilies, day lilies, irises, and hibiscus,” Farmers’ Almanac wrote.

It also suggested planting lemon thyme and lemon balm because rain usually increases the number of mosquitos.
