Stone piled on roof caused Mill Street collapse, attorney claims in court

Contractors working to replace a leaky roof did not properly dispose of stone waste, stacking it in piles on the roof instead of sending it down a chute to a dumpster, which caused the Worcester building’s roof to collapse, an attorney for the landlord argued in housing court Friday.

Walter Jacobs, arguing on behalf of the landlords who owned 267 Mill St. in July 2022, claimed his clients, Michelle and Bechara Fren, were doing everything they could to upgrade the building and make it safe at the time of a collapse that displaced the residents of all 32 units.
