Stephen Scott goes yard, but WooSox drop series-opener against IronPigs

The Worcester Red Sox fell to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Tuesday, 4-3 in the first game of a six-game series.

The Red Sox took a one-run lead on three separate occasions, but each time the hosts found a response and equalized before finally finding the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth on a Matt Kroon solo home run, his third of the season.

Ronaldo Hernandez put the visitors ahead for the first time in the opening frame when he hit into a ground ball double play with the bases loaded and nobody out, a bittersweet end to what seemed to be a ripe inning for runs.

Stephen Scott connected on his 13th home run of the season in the fourth inning to put the visitors ahead for the second time. The final run was scored on a wild pitch in the seventh, with Corey Rosier scoring from third.

Worcester (77-67) will look to bounce back in game two of this six-game series with Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, Sep. 20 at 6:45 p.m.
