Stephen Curry details Celtics’ growth since 2022 NBA Finals

BOSTON — Stephen Curry and the Warriors have seen the Celtics up-close when the teams met in the 2022 NBA Finals. Golden State got the better of Boston then in a six-game series. Since then, the C’s have retooled to their current version as the best team in the NBA this season.

After the Celtics blew out the Warriors on Sunday, Curry detailed what growth he’s seen out of the C’s.

“They’re younger,” Curry said. “Fell short a couple times and then obviously we got them in that Finals. They’ve stayed motivated, hungry. You always take those moments and understand you have to get better, and they’ve done that. … The way they’ve been playing, they seem very sure of themselves and their identity and who they are. You give them credit.

“They’re hungry again. The league is competitive at the top. They have a history that they kind of want to overcome. They’re playing well right now. Whatever motivation they’ve taken away from that, it shows.”

The Warriors haven’t been their outstanding selves as they dropped to 32-28 on the season after Sunday’s loss. But still, they’ve improved their play of late and looked like a dangerous foe coming into the game. But the Celtics are playing some of their best ball of the season themselves, building up a huge lead in the blowout victory.

Curry complimented the Celtics and said they’re currently the best team in the NBA. That’s no surprise after Sunday’s result as the C’s also have a 48-12 record, along with an 11-game winning streak. While one game doesn’t define the entire season for both teams, it was still an impressive result for the Celtics.

But regardless of what Curry says about the C’s, Boston still needs to get to that mountaintop of the NBA. The current core of the Celtics have done just about everything except actually hanging Banner No. 18. They’ve been on a team on a mission for that one common goal, and Sunday was just the latest impressive data point on the year.

“Mostly connecting both sides of the ball,” Curry said. “They obviously play a physical style, and they know how to space and what shots they’re trying to create. It seems they have confidence no matter who has the ball in their hands. It’s an identity and a confidence in how you play every night. You can feel it in certain teams, and certain teams don’t have it. You don’t win 11 in a row on accident. They’re tough.”
