Springfield’s Indian community celebrates 77th anniversary of independence

Members of the Indian-American community gathered in Tower Square in downtown Springfield Saturday morning to mark India’s 77th year of independence.

Raj Rayonia says he was welcomed when he came to the United States 34 years ago, yet still has great pride in his homeland. He serves as vice president of the Gujarati Association of Western Massachusetts, which celebrates and continues to practice Indian traditions.
