SPRINGFIELD — The city will be able to focus more effort on replacing trees uprooted and damaged in the tornado and other storms and fill in areas that have little shade with a host of grants designed to fight climate change.
The city has received a total of $6 million in different federal and state grants to be used over the next three to five years to improve the tree canopy in the city, said Thomas Ashe, director of Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management.
