Springfield police commission is two years old; it just finished its operating manual

SPRINGFIELD – Nearly two years after being created, the Board of Police Commissioners just unveiled its manual of rules and regulations — putting in writing guidelines for ethics, removal of a member and policies on how it will receive and hear complaints against officers.

On Wednesday, the five-member board held a public hearing to take comments and answer questions about how it will now act as the authority that determines when a police officer should be disciplined or fired.

About 50 people attended. Most asked questions to clarify the board’s duties. Some made suggestions on how the 25-page manual could be tweaked. Commission members were receptive to ideas and promised to look into implementing them.
