SOUTHWICK — A recent ruling from a state regulator means residents and businesses in Southwick probably won’t get lower electricity rates before the end of this year.
The state Department of Public Utilities has changed its permitting process for municipal aggregation programs, delaying new applications by at least three months. It’s now likely that Southwick’s program won’t be approved in 2024, as town officials had hoped.
“I wasn’t just upset when I learned of the delay, I was infuriated,” said Select Board member Jason Perron who was the original proponent of establishing the aggregation program for the town.
