SOUTHWICK — The Finance Committee authorized the purchase of 40 new semi-automatic pistols for the Police Department after the department learned the SIG Sauer P320 they now carry can possibly accidently discharge.
“I would rather not be here tonight with this ask, but it was brought to our attention there was a problem with our current firearms platform we purchased a couple of years ago,” said Police Chief Rhett Bannish during the Finance Committee’s meeting Tuesday night when requesting $32,518 to purchase 40 new Glock semi-automatics.
Police Lt. Michael Taggert then took the floor and explained the issues with the SIG Sauer P320s, which were purchased in 2022.
