Southwick panel told slightly higher rates could make fiber network profitable

SOUTHWICK — With questions raised about the financial viability of the proposed construction of a town-owned broadband network, representatives from Whip City Fiber appeared before the town’s High Speed Internet Committee last week to present several financial models the committee can use before it makes a final recommendation to the Select Board if the project should move forward.

“We’re not looking to make a profit, just pay down the debt,” said Douglas Moglin, the Select Board member who proposed the project in 2022 during the committee’s meeting.

During the Select Board meeting last week, Moglin said during the last several months, the internet committee had been meeting and studying revenue projections and financial models and there were questions if the project would work financially.
