There’s hitting for contact, and there’s hitting for power.
Then there’s what the Eagles did Thursday afternoon – swinging for the fences.
Franklin County Tech softball (12-3) handily defeated Frontier Regional (10-5) via an 8-1 score. The visitors went yard five separate times, rounding the bases on the regular.
The Eagles came in at No. 13 in Tuesday‘s MIAA Division V power rankings, and only enhanced their resume with their latest triumph against a Red Hawks team which stands No. 8 in Div. IV.
Grabbing the early lead in their meeting was Frontier Regional with a singular run in the first inning. But the group would never hold the advantage again as Franklin County Tech steadily sent runners across the plate.
Coach Joseph Gamache’s crew tallied two or more runs in three of the following five frames. While senior pitcher Hannah Gilbert hurled six innings of two-hit ball, Eagle bats were active.
Gilbert herself wacked a pair of solo home runs, while junior third baseman Alison George ripped two of her own to bring in half of the team’s total runs.
Junior outfielder/shortstop Lindsey Taylor also sent the ball flying with a solo dinger in the seven-run rout.
Franklin County Tech’s winning streak hits eight with the victory. The squad has only lost once – by two runs to No. 12 Hopkins Academy – since April 9.
Next up is a bout with Pioneer Valley Regional on Saturday at 10 am. Frontier Regional, on the other hand, will host South Hadley on Friday at 5:30 pm.
