Six Flags New England’s Fright Fest returns with monsters come to life

Six Flags New England has once again turned into a haunting hot spot for ghosts, ghouls, zombies and more with the return of Fright Fest.

With the annual haunt event back for the fall season, Fright Fest is brought to life by the scare actors behind the blood and gore.

But before the scares can take place for the season, the talent behind the monsters are put in “Ghoul School” — an immersive training program that helps scare actors become the most effective scarer they can be.

“We basically gather up all of our new scare actors and we talk about how to embody a character,” scare actor Willow Farber told MassLive. “Like what does your center of gravity look like? What kind of facial expressions or sounds might you be making?”

To add to the terrifying transformation, scare actors head to the “Zombie Factory” — a room filled with makeup, props, blood, costumes and whatever else needed to bring the monsters to life.

Greg Seymour, an entertainment supervisor and makeup artist for Six Flags New England noted what goes into creating a variety of faces.

While makeup for typical monsters like zombies and goblins are in the mix, there’s always opportunity for making a character your own.

“I like a good challenge, I like someone coming up and being like ‘I have this idea’ and see if we can make that come to life,” Seymour said.

Guests can see the scare actors in the flesh throughout the park or in one of its haunted mazes like the Midnight Mansion, Camp Killamore, Slasher Circus 3D and more.

Fright Fest at Six Flags New England is open every weekend until Nov. 9. See more information about Fright Fest here.
