A pair of siblings, one of whom lives in South Hadley, were rescued from a hiking trail in Franconia, New Hampshire on Saturday night as the early stages of hypothermia set in, New Hampshire Fish and Game said in a statement.
The siblings, Xander Dalke, 20, of Hanover, New Hampshire, and Aylen Dalke, 18, of South Hadley, had planned a two-day hike around the Owl’s Head mountain, setting off at around 7 a.m. Saturday from Lincoln Woods. The pair told conservation officers with New Hampshire Fish and Game they fell into Lincoln Brook, soaking their clothes, according to the statement.
After changing into dry clothing, the siblings again fell into the brook. The pair then set up camp 2.5 miles short of their destination and tried to warm themselves up. But once they stopped hiking and set up the tent, the early stages of hypothermia set in, the statement reads.
