A cold front moving into Massachusetts on Monday could bring some showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
A weak low-pressure system is set to pass through ahead of the front, bringing some showers to Cape Cod and the islands. The majority of the showers should be over by mid-morning.
The front will move in from the west later in the day into the evening. As it does, there is a chance for some showers and storms in the afternoon.
But National Weather Service forecasters say there is a low likelihood any storms that do form will be severe. Any storms that do materialize are likely to arrive between 3 and 6 p.m.
Still, there is a fairly low chance any storms will actually arrive, forecasters said.
Temperatures could fall to the low to mid-50s in the interior Monday night as the front moves through. In the wake of the front, a cooler airmass will settle in over southern New England through the remainder of the week.
High temperatures are expected to stay mainly in the mid-70s this week, with much cooler conditions at night. Overnight lows could drop below the high 40s in some areas of higher elevation.
The next chance for precipitation comes later Thursday into Friday, but “details such as amounts, exact timing [and] coverage are less certain,” forecasters wrote.
