Shop at Price Chopper or Market 32? They have an exclusive Polar Seltzer | Nick Ate It

Polar Seltzer’s secretive bubble wizardry continues with another flavor that’s exclusive to one company.

This time around, it’s Mountain Berry, which you can only find at Price Chopper and Market 32 (which is a spinoff of Price Chopper).

It’s the latest entry in Polar’s “Expedition: Flavor” series, which has been quietly slipping new, exclusive flavors onto store shelves.

This time around, we’ve got one of the vaguest-sounding flavors Polar has ever come up with. “Mountain Berry?” It sounds like a type of Capri Sun or Gatorade. It is an actual Welch’s fruit cocktail flavor.

“Berry” isn’t a flavor. It’s a genre. It’s like saying a Hot Pocket is filled with “meat.”

Meanwhile, “Mountain” doesn’t really narrow things down unless you’re an expert on conventional berry habitats.

As much as I’m having fun griping, this is a solvable flavor riddle. If you look at the can, you can clearly see that there are blueberries and blackberries on there.

So there you go. Mountain Berry = Blueberry/Blackberry.

Polar Seltzer Mountain Berry | Review

The Worcester-based bubble barons have so many flavors flying around that they have the luxury of coming up with special varieties that are specific to stores.

Mountain Berry is the eighth flavor to enter the store-exclusive series. Fortunately for those in Massachusetts, this one is readily available. Two of the eight aren’t available in the state. One isn’t available in New England at all.

If you want to play along with the “Expedition: Flavor” promotion, you can check out the interactive map on the Polar website.

If you just want to know where all the special flavors are, here’s a quick breakdown.

Expedition: Flavor | Here’s where you can find the hidden Polar Seltzer flavors

  • Mountain Berry – Only at Price Chopper/Market 32
  • Watermelon Wonder – Only at Roche Bros.
  • Cranberry Raspberry – Only at Market Basket
  • Clementine Bramble – Only at Stop & Shop
  • Island Blueberry – Only at Shaw’s
  • Apple Pom Bomb – Only at Big Y
  • Blood Orange Punch – Only at ShopRite (Not available in Massachusetts, but can be found in Connecticut)
  • Nectarine Lemon – Only at Kroger/Harris Teeter (Not available in New England)

What does it taste like?

The blackberry and blueberry team up to create a clean, direct flavor that leans heavily into the notes of dry, dark berry.

It doesn’t pop or flash like some of the more exciting flavors. It’s more of a muted experience, which is great in its own way. This flavor is easy-drinking. I could see myself going back to it multiple times.

There are a lot of Polar Seltzer flavors that go for the “dry berry” vibe. A lot of the blackberry ones are solid. I’m not as big a fan of many of the blueberry ones. But this one? It really nails the archetype.

The final word: Updated all-time seltzer rankings

With the new flavors, I’m now up to 106 entries in my all-time Polar Seltzer flavor rankings. I like this flavor. But there’s some stiff competition in the rankings, so it only goes as high as No. 35.

As always, these rankings are not scientific, but they are correct.
