Sexual assault reported in busy neighborhood of Mass. city

Cambridge police are investigating a sexual assault Tuesday, where a person woke up in a parking lot in the city’s Central Square to discover they had been assaulted.

The person who had been assaulted told police that around 12:20 a.m. they were talking to three people on the 200 block of Franklin Street, which is near the Central Square branch of the Cambridge Public Library. But, they said, they have no memory of what took place following that conversation, according to a statement from Cambridge Police.

The person then woke up in a parking lot in Central Square and determined they had been assaulted, police said. They were taken to a hospital for treatment, according to police.

Cambridge Police have assigned additional patrols to the Central Square area as a precaution and urged any residents to call 911 immediately if they feel threatened or see any suspicious activity. Anyone with information about the assault is encouraged to contact police at 617-349-9151.
