Severe storms could hit Western Mass. region Saturday

Parts of Western Massachusetts could see strong winds and large hail as scattered thunderstorms move into the region Saturday afternoon.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service issued a severe weather outlook due to threatening storms that could roll in between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. The scattered storms are forecasted to affect Berkshire, Hampshire, Hampden and Franklin counties.

Although the weather service described damaging wind gusts and large hail as the main threats, “an isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out,” the National Weather Service wrote in a Saturday morning social media post.

Some storms could also bring heavy rainfall and lead to flooding in areas with poor drainage, according to the weather service.

Near Springfield, there is a chance for rain and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Saturday. And in Central Massachusetts, rain and thunderstorms could start after 7 p.m. Saturday.

In Boston, rain is possible after 10 p.m. However, thunderstorms are less likely. While on Cape Cod, rain could happen around 11 p.m. Saturday.

More storms could be happening on Monday and Tuesday, the National Weather Service warned.
