SOUTHWICK — While Select Board member Diane Gale once again proposed having sewer system customers eventually take over the maintenance of a small pump that grinds sewage before it reaches a main line, the board deferred the decision until its next meeting.
“What if we put the grinder pump on the users for replacement going forward?” Gale asked her fellow board members, Doug Moglin and Jason Perron, during the last week’s board meeting.
Every home in town that was connected to sewer system when it was being installed nearly 20 years ago has this pump, called a grinder, that has a cutting mechanism that chews up items not normally found in sewage but gets flushed down the toilet.
