WESTFIELD — An attempt to scam an elderly woman out of $15,000 was foiled last week by the quick thinking of her daughter and the efforts of two city police officers to track her down before she deposited in a bitcoin machine.
At about 4:30 p.m., Friday, a police dispatcher got a call from the elderly woman’s daughter frantic that her mother was headed to a city bank to withdraw a large sum of money after falling prey to a scammer who called her.
