Sam Kennedy acknowledges Red Sox ticket sales are down for 2024 season

The Boston Red Sox have finished in last place the last two seasons. Between their struggles and not acquiring big names to bolster the roster, ticket sales have dipped.

Appearing on the “Fenway Rundown” podcast with MassLive’s Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam, Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy addressed that ticket sales are down for the 2024 campaign.

“Anytime you have to losing or down seasons, you do get a lag, a negative lag effect the following year,” Kennedy said. “We have been humbled by the support that we’ve had from our fans, from our corporate sponsors, from our broadcast partners.

“Our ticket sales are lagging down a little bit from last year. We’re down about five percent, but in no way has there been a major drop off at this point,” he continued. “Look, we’ve got to perform and get people excited as we get — especially in the early months when the weather is not going to be good. We’re down about five percent in our ticket sales. We’ve got time to make that up sponsors.”

Kennedy revealed that the sponsorship revenue is up, something the CEO is “very grateful for” and he believes “marketing with the Red Sox is a great way to build your brand.”

But the Red Sox aren’t getting complacent.

“We recognize we’ve got to turn things around and we’ve got to play better baseball to honor the commitment that both of our fans and our sponsors have made to us,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy also admitted that the expectations among fans aren’ high, but he still has confidence that if the Red Sox can stay healthy, they can compete for the postseason.

Boston begins its 2024 campaign Thursday night against the Seattle Mariners.
