Salem police seeking driver, vehicle involved in attempted child abduction

The Salem Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying and possibly locating a suspected vehicle and driver involved in an attempted child abduction that happened Friday.

Police said that three children were walking home from Witchcraft Heights Elementary School when they were approached by an unknown vehicle around 2:45 p.m. on Oct. 6.

The male driver, who pulled over near the corner of Carrollton Street and Belleview Avenue, told the kids to “get in the car because your mom said so,” according to police.

All three children walked away without speaking to the driver, police said. He then drove away, taking a left onto Belleview. The children described the driver, as well as a female passenger, as both being of Asian descent.

The vehicle is described as a blue Honda pilot believed to be between a 2016-2022 model. Police did not notice any distinct stickers or markings but said the car has roof racks and running boards. The license plate number is unknown.

Anyone who saw the incident or has information about the car or driver is asked to call the Salem Police Criminal Investigation Division at (978) 745-9700, Salem Police Dispatch at (978) 744-1212, or the anonymous tip line at (978) 619-5627.
