EASTHAMPTON — City Council President Salem Derby will serve as interim mayor when Mayor Nicole LaChapelle steps down on Tuesday to lead the state’s Department of Conservation and Recreation.
Derby will be interim mayor until the city’s regularly-scheduled mayoral election in November.
“I’m honored to step in during this important transitional time,” Derby, a longtime councilor, said in a statement released by the city.
