Rip current statement active for 3 Massachusetts counties until Friday evening

A rip current statement was released by the National Weather Service on Friday at 2:08 a.m. in effect until 7 p.m. for Bristol, Plymouth and Barnstable counties.

The weather service says to anticipate, “Dangerous rip currents on south-facing beaches.”

“Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water,” says the weather service. “Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.”
