After three seasons with the New England Revolution, Tomás Chancalay will continue his career in MLS elsewhere.
On Friday the club announced that it sold the former Designated Player to Minnesota United for $100,000 and an undisclosed percentage of future transfer fees.
The move to Minnesota will be a chance at a fresh start for the soon to be 27-year-old Argentine. After scoring six goals in 11 games in 2023, Chancalay tore his ACL in 2024.
After returning in April, Chancalay could not find a secure place in the starting lineup for New England this season. He appeared in 26 contests but started just 12 and finished the year with four goals and two assists.
“On behalf of the Revolution, I’d like to thank Tomás for his contributions during his time with our club,” New England Sporting Director Curt Onalfo said in a statement. “We wish him and his family all the best as he begins this next chapter with Minnesota.”
For the Revs, the transfer frees up a Designated Player spot on the roster.
It’s the second time this week that the club has made a large in-league transfer. On Monday, New England announced the acquisition of 20-year-old midfielder Brooklyn Raines from Houston.
The Revs sent $1.6 million to the Dynamo for Raines with an additional $400,000 available via conditions. Upon acquiring him, New England signed Raines to a deal through the 2028-29 season with a club option for the year after.
Raines, who holds 45 regular season appearances in MLS, previously played under new Revs head coach Marko Mitrović for the Unites States U-20 National Team.
“I know Brooklyn very well as a person and as a player. He is someone whose qualities fit our style of play, and his mentality is aligned with the culture that we want to build,” Mitrović said in a statement. ”While he has very high potential, he has already been an impactful player in MLS.
“I believe he can help our team win now, and we can support his development even more in the future. I’m really looking forward to having him with us.”
