The power of song can can do more than bring people together at concerts, it can also reunite birds with their owner after they had been missing for almost three days.
That was the case for one pet owner in Wrentham, whose pet bird named Thor was spotted the roof of a building on Killdeer Drive in Wrentham Wednesday, May 29, the town of Wrentham and Plainville Animal Control said in a Facebook post.
After posting a picture of Thor, and asking the public to help find his owner, someone recognized the bird from a post in Milford a few days before, Wrentham AOC officer Lexi Klenk said in another Facebook post.
“This same bird had made it all the way from Milford to Wrentham within that two day span,” Klenk wrote. “Crazy right?!”
From there, AOC got in touch with Thor’s owner, who also posted about the missing bird, according to Klenk.
Over the phone the owner instructed Klenk how to get Thor indoors. One of these instructions was to whistle The Champs’ 1958 song, “Tequila.” However, Thor will not respond to just anyone who whistles the tune.
“It has to be a man because, well, Thor, apparently doesn’t like women very much,” a Facebook post from Wrentham police reads. “But we can deal with that! Hide the women and get a man who can whistle to the scene.”
Despite successfully getting a male whistler to try and lure Thor into the home at Killdeer Drive, the flighty fowl “vanished into the clouds” and flew to another home at L’Herault Drive, which was four miles across town, Wrentham police said.
Klenk then told that homeowner — who is also a fan of The Champs — to also whistle “Tequila.”
This time the strategy worked and Thor flew right into the dining room and took a rest on the whistler’s head until his owner to take Thor home, according to police
“Seeing the reunion between Thor and his owners was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever witnessed. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room,” Klenk wrote in Wrentham AOC’s Facebook post. “This just shows that the power of social media and Facebook is crucial when animals go missing.”
After a nearly three days of roof hopping and hearing people whistle, Thor was said to be resting comfortably at home.
