Report: Rams trade son of former Patriots WR to Falcons

UPDATE: Not long after reports surfaced that the Rams were looking to trade Van Jefferson, Los Angeles was able to find a new home for him. According to NFL Network’s Ian Raporport, the Rams traded the son former Patriots wide receiver Shawn Jefferson to the Atlanta Falcons.

ORIGINAL STORY: Van Jefferson could be the odd man out for the Rams with Cooper Kupp’s return and the emergence of rookie Puka Nacua.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Los Angeles is trying to trade the son of former Patriots wide receiver Shawn Jefferson, and “the player is open to a new home.”

The Rams haven’t found much of a role for Jefferson this season, and he played just two snaps in LA’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Nacua played all 56 snaps and Kupp played 53.

Jefferson, had four catches for 23 yards in the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI win while his wife went into labor during the game, is in the final year of his contract, The trade deadline is Oct. 31.

The Patriots could certainly use some help at the wide receiver position with New England’s corps struggling. Demario Douglas and JuJu Smith-Schuster are in concussion protocol after getting injured in Sunday’s loss.

It’s unclear if they’ll try to acquire the 27-year-old.

A fresh start might be good for Jefferson so he could get consistent playing time and play a role for a team that needs some help.
