Report: Emergency crews responding to power outage at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton

Emergency services officials in Brockton have responded to Good Samaritan Hospital for a power outage, according to published reports.

Crews from the Brockton Emergency Management Agency were working on “emergency issues” that have affected the hospital’s operations, News-25 in Boston reported on Saturday afternoon.

The hospital is on “condition black,” which means it is not accepting incoming patients, the station reported, citing emergency management officials. Patients who require it are being taken to sister hospitals, the station reported.

A spokesperson for Steward Health Care, which owns and operates Good Samaritan, confirmed the power outage to WCVB-TV in Boston.

“Our team is working diligently to find the cause. As patient safety is always our number one priority, our patients are receiving uninterrupted care,” the spokesperson told the station. “Where needed our patients are being transferred to our sister hospitals for care.”

Shortly after 11:45 a.m., BEMA Director Steve Hooke said in a Facebook post that flooding had prompted the power issues at the hospital, the station reported.

“The emergency room will remain closed until an assessment can be done on the electrical system,” Hooke wrote. “Also, the hospital has no phone, internet or computer services.”
