BOSTON — Instant reactions from the Red Sox’ 2-1 walkoff win in 10 innings over the Yankees on Friday at Fenway Park:
1) Carlos Narváez belted the go-ahead homer against his former team in Boston’s win Sunday in the Bronx.
He delivered a walkoff RBI single off the Green Monster on Friday.
Jarren Duran grounded out to second base to begin the bottom of the 10th inning. David Hamilton, the automatic runner, advanced to third base. The Yankees then intentionally walked Rafael Devers.
Lefty Tim Hill struck out Marcelo Mayer swinging for the second out. That left it up to Narváez who connected on a 1-2 fastball.
2) Ace Garrett Crochet struck out Aaron Judge the first six times he faced him this year. But with Boston up 1-0 in the ninth inning, Judge blasted a 443-foot, 115.5 mph solo homer over the Green Monster to tie it 1-1.
3) Judge’s homer ended Crochet’s attempt at a complete game shutout. Crochet went 8 ⅓ innings — his longest career outing — and allowed just one run, four hits and one walk while striking out seven. He topped out at 100.2 mph on his second to last pitch against Judge.
4) Judge homered on a 99.6 mph four-seam fastball. Of the 21 pitches Crochet threw to Judge on Saturday, 17 were four-seam fastballs. He struck him out on fastballs of 99 mph, 98.2 mph and 97.1 mph.
5) Carlos Narváez threw out Anthony Volpe, the extra-inning automatic runner, at third base for the first out of the 10th inning. He initially was called safe but the Red Sox challenged and the call was overturned.
Narváez has thrown out three of four runners who have tried to steal against him the past two games.
6) Garrett Whitlock threw a scoreless 10th inning.
7) Boston improved to 35-36 while New York dropped to 42-26. The Red Sox have won six of their past eight games. They are 3-1 against the Yankees.
8) Crochet escaped a jam with runners at the corners and no outs in the fifth inning. Jasson Domínguez reached on third baseman Abraham Toro’s error, then stole second base. He advanced to third base on DJ LeMahieu’s single. But Crochet struck out Austin Wells (foul tip) and Oswald Peraza (swinging), then got Paul Goldschmidt to ground out to shortstop.
9) Ceddanne Rafaela gave the Red Sox a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single to center field that scored Trevor Story. Story had singled to lead off the inning.
10) The Red Sox and Yankees will play the second game of their three-game series Saturday on FOX. Rookie Hunter Dobbins (3-1, 4.20 ERA) will start for Boston opposite lefty Carlos Rodón (8-4, 2.87 ERA).
