BOSTON — All of Zach Penrod’s first 20 appearances as a member of the Red Sox organization (including the 2023 Arizona Fall League) were starts and he posted a 3.15 ERA.
But the 27-year-old lefty (signed out of independent ball Aug. 16, 2023) pitched an inning out of the bullpen for Triple-A Worcester at Syracuse on Saturday. He allowed a run, hit and walk while striking out one. He threw nine four-seam fastballs, averaging 96.7 mph and topping out at 98 mph, per Baseball Savant.
