Red Sox lose: Bats dominated by rookie starter as Astros star homers twice

BOSTON — The Red Sox entered Saturday knowing they’d have to piece together a game with pitchers thrust into bigger roles than usual. That happened, and the top of the Astros’ order feasted.

Yordan Alvarez homered twice and Alex Bregman added a solo shot of his own as the Red Sox fell for the third day in a row, this time by a score of 5-4. Despite entering with a 5.33 ERA in 20 starts, righty Spencer Arrighetti kept Boston’s hitters guessing for seven innings and Boston’s late rally once Arrighetti was out of the game fell short. The Sox clinched their first series loss in four tries and fell to 61-54.
