BOSTON — First baseman Nathaniel Lowe is back in the Red Sox lineup Sunday, after sitting yesterday in his return from paternity leave.
Masataka Yoshida remains in the DH spot despite batting .232 with a .629 OPS in 34 games (124 plate appearances).
The Red Sox will try to salvage the final game of their three-game series against the Pirates. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. Boston lost 4-2 on Friday and 10-3 on Saturday.
Boston signed Lowe on Aug. 17 after the Nationals released him. He’s 8-for-27 (.296) with a .375 on-base percentage, one homer, two doubles, four walks and seven RBIs in nine games.

Manager Alex Cora said he’s seen some progress from Yoshida this series. He’s gone 2-for-6 with two strikeouts.
“The last two games have been solid,” Cora said Sunday. “It seems like he’s seeing the ball a lot better. Has been able to stay on pitches going the other way. And hopefully, that’s the beginning of something good.”
Romy Gonzalez will play second base and Ceddanne Rafaela is in center field.
Right-hander Lucas Giolito will start for Boston after he went 8 scoreless innings in his previous start at Baltimore. Righty Mitch Keller is on the mound for the Pirates.
