Red Sox pitching prospect David Sandlin and two relievers combined for a no-hitter in Double-A Portland’s 10-0 win over Akron on Sunday.
Sandlin, who Boston acquired from the Royals for reliever John Schreiber in February 2024, threw 6 innings and allowed three walks while striking out nine.
His nine strikeouts tied a season-high. He also did it May 11 vs. Chesapeake.
Baseball America ranks Sandlin Boston’s No. 11 prospect. MLB Pipeline ranks him the Red Sox’ No. 9 prospect. The 24-year-old’s fastball has reached the triple-digits.
Sandlin has a 2.48 ERA (29 innings, eight runs) over his past five outings (four starts) with three scoreless innings mixed in. He has allowed just 21 hits during that stretch.
Christopher Troye — a 2021 12th round pick out of UC Santa Barbara — pitched 2 innings and allowed two walks while striking out nobody.
Jonathan Brand — a 2022 eighth round pick out of Miami (Ohio) — pitched the ninth. He allowed one walk and hit one batter while striking out two.
Troye got Jake Fox to pop out to third baseman Luis Ravelo for the final out of the game. Ravelo caught it in foul territory.
